But I needed to share some good news from the golf world. As I mentioned San Antonio is hosting the Valero sponsored Texas Open this week.

My hometown has spiffed itself up in preparation for the golfers and many volunteers are at the ready for the Tour professionals, their staff and the spectators to come into town.

In addition to some absolutely fantastic golf, the Valero Texas Open is also a fundraiser. And this year is no exception. A total of $8.5 million, a new record for the PGA, has been raised for this year. Part of the proceeds are passed out locally and the rest goes to children’s charities nationwide.

Last year Valero distributed $1.5 million to San Antonio children’s charities. Next year the players will be gathering in May here in San Antonio. It’s a change of date from October to May which shortens the time to raise funds for next year. But Valero has worked diligently to be a good sponsor of the PGA Tour Charities. Now it’s up to the players to show their stuff.

Keep your eye on the ball,
